Obituary

Nancy Sarver Cerrone, daughter, wife, mother, “grammy”, teacher, and friend, passed away May 27th, 2025, with her beloved husband and daughter by her side. Born February 17th, 1947 in Freeport, PA to the late Lucille and Matthew Sarver, she was one of five daughters and two sons. Of her immediate family, she is survived by her sisters Becky (William) Ross and Joyce Spiering, and her two brothers Edward (Lorraine) Sarver and Charles “Chuck” (Debbie) Sarver. She has now been spiritually reunited with sisters Jean (Danny) Benik and Donna (Richard) Crabill.
Nancy married her college sweetheart Richard Cerrone of McKees Rocks. Together they raised their two children; the late Kelly Cadamore and Richelle Sommerfield. These two women were her pride and joy. She taught them the beauty of musical theater, power rock ballads, boy bands, and the proper way to wave a Terrible Towel. She took great pride in being the loudest during any Steelers game, a skill that she passed down to both her daughters, much to the dismay of her son-in-laws, Mark Cadamore and Jason Sommerfield.
During their 55 years of marriage, Nancy and Richard welcomed four beautiful grandchildren: Kaitlin & Dawson Cadamore, and Noah & Andrew Sommerfield. Nancy dedicated her retirement years to spending as much time as possible with them: hosting Friday night sleep-overs, reciting every joke word for word that Google (or Joel Osteen) would give her, and even re-writing their favorite songs into personalized birthday serenades.
As a special education teacher, Nancy was there for her students well beyond the classroom. She was the one to attend graduation ceremony after graduation ceremony, to advocate for students that weren’t even her own, and to show every person what it looked like to not only show up but to stand up.
Nancy probably single-handedly kept James Patterson and John Grisham in business with how fast she flew through their thriller novels. She knew every Josh Groban album by heart. She despised politicians, snakes, and when Stabler left Law and Order: SVU. She loved dogs, cats, department store sales, silver jewelry, the color blue, beaches, skinny vanilla lattes, and affectionately heckling her husband.
Nancy was and always will be the epitome of sunshine, whether it be in her words, her jokes, her voicemails, her hugs, the black and red licorice kept in her center console, or her love of her family and friends.
Her final act of grace was leaving her loved ones to hold the weight of her absence tempered by the knowledge that she is now amongst the arms of her beloved parents, sisters, and her eldest daughter, all of whom welcomed her home with arms wide open.
As per Nancy’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Diabetes Association. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at a later date.
